Microdermabrasion

What is a Microdermabrasion?

A Microdermabrasion is an exfoliating treatment that is beneficial for antiaging. It helps the skin to feel smoother and look brighter. It is suitable for mild to moderate acne, blackheads, whiteheads, pigmentation and fine lines. Microdermabrasion is a great treatment for overall skin maintenance.

How does it work?

This treatment is a mechanical form of exfoliation using a fine stream of abrasive crystals or a diamond tip whilst simultaneously suctioning the skin debris.

This process stimulates the flow of fresh oxygenated blood to the skin’s surface, which in turn boosts collagen production. This aids the skin’s natural healing and rejuvenation processes.

The result is polished, fresh, exfoliated skin with increased cellular function and renewal.

At SM Aesthetic Lab we offer two types of microdermabrasion options: Crystal Microdermabrasion and Diamond Microdermabrasion.

Similar treatments to a Diamond Microdermabrasion:

For this non-invasive exfoliation procedure, a few alternatives offer similar or better benefits to the Diamond microdermabrasion. Here are some options:

1. Chemical Peels or AHA Peels: Chemical peels involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes controlled exfoliation. They come in varying strengths, from superficial to deep, and can improve skin texture, reduce hyperpigmentation, and promote a youthful appearance.
2. Dermaplaning: Dermaplaning is a procedure that uses a surgical scalpel to gently remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz from the skin’s surface.
3. HydraFacial: The HydraFacial treatment combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection in one procedure. It uses a specialised device to remove dead skin cells, extract impurities, and infuse the skin with hydrating and nourishing serums.
4. Micro-needling: Micro-needling, skin needling or collagen induction therapy, involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This treatment can help improve skin texture, reduce acne scars, and promote a youthful appearance.
5. Oxygen Facial: An oxygen facial involves infusing oxygen and other specialised serums into the skin using a pressurised device, unlike microdermabrasion which is more abrasive, leading to better results.

It’s essential to consult with a Microdermabrasion specialist to determine which treatment is best suited for your specific skin type and concerns. They can assess your skin condition and recommend the most appropriate option.
